OZOPOLF Disowns Group Backing Okigwe Zone for 2027 Governorship, Reaffirms Owerri Zone Claim

The Owerri Zone Political Leaders Forum (OZOPOLF) has distanced itself from a purported statement circulating in the media and on social platforms allegedly endorsing the emergence of the next Governor of Imo State from Okigwe Zone in the 2027 general election.

In a statement issued on Tuesday and signed by its Secretary General, Hon. Barr. Kingsley Ononuju, OZOPOLF described the group behind the statement—identified as “OZOPROF”—as unknown, unauthorized, and deceptive, warning the public against being misled by what it termed a “clandestine narrative.”

According to the Forum, OZOPOLF is a duly registered organization with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) and has consistently maintained a clear and principled stance in support of the rotation of the Imo State governorship in line with the Imo Charter of Equity.

The group reaffirmed that Owerri Zone remains next in line to produce the Governor of Imo State in 2027/28, stressing that this position has been sustained over the years in collaboration with other stakeholders and political interest groups across the state.

OZOPOLF further cited public assurances by the Governor of Imo State, Distinguished Senator Hope Uzodinma, who has repeatedly pledged his commitment to the Imo Charter of Equity and to handing over power to an indigene of Owerri Zone at the end of his tenure.

“The Forum categorically dissociates itself and the general public from this misleading claim and reiterates its unwavering resolve to pursue the realization of an Owerri Zone governorship in the 2027/28 gubernatorial election,” the statement read.

The development comes amid growing political consultations and alignments ahead of the 2027 elections, as zoning and power rotation continue to dominate political discourse in Imo State.

OZOPOLF concluded by calling for unity, fairness, and respect for the Charter of Equity as a framework for sustained peace and political stability in the state.
