In recent weeks, an unfortunate controversy has unfolded within the Assemblies of God (AG) Church, centering on Pastor Obinna Nwoko Ph.D. Reports indicate that this crisis is rooted in conspiracy, fueled by jealousy over the overwhelming love he enjoys from members and the divine growth God has granted him in the church.
The situation came to public attention through the lockdown of the Church by the Youths last Sunday and broadcasts on Darling FM, where the Odionyemma family members who claim major stakeholders of the National church because of the emergence of a General Superintendent of AG Nigeria for over two decades from that family; who have vehemently vowed and boasted that they will ensure the sack of Rev Dr Obinna Nwoko, as they boast of their affinity with the General Superintendent: Rev A. U. Amadi PhD.
However, after thorough investigation, it became evident that these allegations were unfounded. In response, the youth of the parish took to the same radio station to counter the claims, making it clear that the church’s closure was not a result of any misconduct from the Pastor, rather a protest against the conspiracy of the Odionyemma families and their ‘General Superintendent’ to remove their beloved pastor without making inquiries from the members of the Church to ascertain the allegations leveled by the Odionyemma families.
Church members, deeply aggrieved by the seeming injustice, have locked the church gates, demanding the intervention of the General Superintendent Rev A. U. Amadi PhD. Their request is simple: let the church leadership address their concerns and ensure fairness. Unfortunately, the General Superintendent has refused to visit, raising suspicions of his involvement in the conspiracy.
Despite the pressure and turmoil, Pastor Obinna Nwoko Ph.D, who has overtime remained open to dialogue and reconciliation has been peaceful without joining issues with the Odionyemma families.
His track records in the AG Church speaks volumes about his establishing about ten branches of the Assemblies of God Church, known for his empowerment capacity on Church members spiritually, financially, structurally and in the academics. His commitment, love, and unwavering faith cannot be taken for granted.. At the heart of this crisis is a call for justice—one that should not be ignored.
The Assemblies of God Church, known for its spiritual strength and unity, must rise above internal power struggles. The leadership must grant Pastor Nwoko a fair hearing, allowing truth and righteousness to prevail. The church should be a place of worship, not a battleground for personal interests.
As this situation continues to unfold, one thing remains clear: the voice of the members cannot be silenced. Their demand for fairness and transparency must be met, for the sake of peace, unity, and the true mission of the church.
