Jubilation in Imo Secretariat as Uzodimma Restores Salaries of Unpaid Workers

Over 700 civil servants in Imo State gathered at the office of the Head of Service, Mrs. Chikodi Emenalom, on Monday, December 9, 2024, to express their gratitude to Governor Hope Uzodimma for reinstating their salaries and reactivating their names on the government payroll.

Our correspondent at the State Secretariat Complex along Owerri-Port Harcourt Road reported widespread joy as workers whose names had been omitted from the payroll celebrated their return.

The workers were seen singing and offering prayers of thanksgiving, acknowledging the governor’s efforts to alleviate their hardships. Many of them shared how the non-payment of their salaries for over eight months had left their families in difficult circumstances.

Governor Uzodimma reportedly restored their names to the payroll and ensured they received their November salaries, marking an end to their long wait for financial relief.

In her address, Mrs. Emenalom commended the workers for taking the time to show their appreciation. She also urged them to remain dedicated to their duties, emphasizing the importance of consistent and serious commitment to their assignments.

Prominent government appointees and stakeholders also lauded Governor Uzodimma for his actions, which they described as a display of responsible leadership.

One stakeholder remarked, “Governor Uzodimma has shown true leadership by listening to the cries of Imo’s unpaid workers, and today, they have received their salaries.”

The event highlights a significant step toward addressing workers’ welfare in the state and restoring trust in the government’s commitment to its workforce.
